I was toying with the idea of a girls-only getaway with my friends not knowing that everyone would be in on it. Within a couple of weeks, we were actually driving 5 hours from the centre of Kuala Lumpur to the Mersing Jetty and just with a short boat trip we spent our weekend away on Malaysia’s best kept island secret – Rawa island. There are only two resorts on the island but Alang’s Rawa was much more quaint without the big establishment vibe, perfect for just us girls to sip on our coconuts while baking under the sun. I’ve always seen photos of this island but none of them beat the feelings of being there in person surrounded by clear, turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Sure, this was not a cheap getaway to most, but spending each sen here was clearly worth it.
The resort, mostly built of white and blue was everything we dreamed of. There were very few tourists (as they are small), the days are quiet and peaceful while the nights are spent dining under the sky with the scrumptious meals that might have been the biggest saboteurs of any bikini bodies, but who cares? We were well fed, we spent time napping on and off the beach, had plenty of girly chats and a whole lot of dancing in their tiny dining-cum-bar area. Daisy, their resident beagle will keep you company while you snooze on the hammock.
It surely was not perfect as there were some group of travelers that might’ve been a little unexpected in numbers but the beach was big enough for all of us. We found a hidden cove at the end of the resort and we spent our time just laughing away, dipping ourselves into the water while pretty much roasting under the hot tropical sun. Guests who stay over the weekend will experience their legendary BBQ dinner and party after. There are no fresh water supply on the island unless it is bottled but that only means that it’ll keep our beach hair around longer. Going back to basics were not an issue when you’re on one of the most beautiful islands in your country. Alang’s Rawa is one of the highlights of my 2016 and I would highly recommend it for those who are seeking for a getaway within the Malaysia.
